Teen Killed, Three Others Injured After Car Overturns in Cumming

A vehicle overturned in Cumming Thursday evening when the driver lost control, killing a 14-year-old girl and injuring three others.

Forsyth County News reports that the girl, Morgan Tumlin, was riding in a 1996 Toyota Camry along with 22-year-old Latoya Tabordon, 18-year-old Elijah Mayfield, and 19-year-old Kayla Savanna Welch, the driver. At approximately 6 p.m., Welch lost control of the vehicle, which temporarily rolled over onto the driver’s side before rolling back onto all four wheels.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident occurred along Buford Dam Road.

Tumlin was thrown from the vehicle and temporarily pinned underneath it. She was not conscious at the scene and was transported to Northside Hospital-Forsyth, where she later died from her injuries.

Tabordon, who was 36 weeks pregnant with twins at the time, was taken to North Fulton Hospital to be treated for serious injuries. Both Tabordon and her babies are in stable condition.

Mayfield was also taken to North Fulton, where he has since been released.

Welch, the driver, suffered serious injuries and was transported to North Fulton after the crash. She has also been released.

With the exception of Tabordon, all of those involved in the accident were from Buford. Tabordon is from Gainesville.

The cause of the wreck is unknown at this time. Authorities are currently investigating the crash.

WDUN reports that charges are currently pending.

Buford Dam Road was closed Thursday night as emergency crews worked the scene.

GEARS accident tracker reports that at least 22 accidents have occurred in Forsyth County in the month of June. The county has seen 295 car crashes so far in 2016.
