The Mustang that caused the accident was fleeing a Forsyth County deputy. Around 6:20 p.m., the deputy turned his lights on, signaling his intention to pull over the Mustang. Instead of complying, the driver of the Mustang, Jay Sanders, a 37-year-old male from Madison, GA, sped up and ran a red light, striking the Toyota.

The Toyota Corolla was propelled forward, flipping a motorcycle in front of it and knocking its driver to the ground. The driver of the motorcycle, however, was unharmed and walking when authorities arrived on the scene.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and neither the Toyota nor the motorcycle were carrying passengers.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Sanders was arrested and charged with felony fleeing, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana less than one ounce, driving on a suspended license and driving a motor vehicle without insurance. In addition, Sanders had an unspecified outstanding warrant.

The Mustang’s lone passenger was Kara Rickard, a 38-year-old woman from Gainesville. She was taken into custody for outstanding warrants for probation violation in Hall, Jackson, and Habersham Counties.

Both are being held at the Forsyth County jail without bond.

As a result of the wreck, the intersection was closed down, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. The busy intersection, near the Cumming marketplace shopping center, was reopened later that same day.
